The Childrens Fund is run by %100 volunteers.
Back in the early 2000’s our Department lost 3 of our members within a few months and we were left with 9 kids who were missing a parent. Talking with Chiefs, officers, firefighters about what we can do for these kids, a common theme kept coming up. It was important to everyone that these kids and families understood that even though their mother or father or husband or wife may no longer be with us that they would always be part of the Bigger Fire family. Each holiday season we send out a check reflecting on that year’s fundraising (usually $1500-2000 each child 21 and under).
As our kids started to age out of the program we saw how much of a positive effect it had and decided in 2012 to get our official 501 c3 status and open it up Statewide.
To help families of Fallen Massachusetts Firefighters with aid and to reinforce that even though their mother or father or husband or wife may no longer be with us that they would always be part of the Bigger Fire family. It’s a small reminder that we are in their corner!
